November 2019

Work has at last started on the community centre now scheduled to open in 2020. The Contractors are Neilcott based in Orpington in Kent .https://www.neilcott.co.uk/

Designed by Mae Architects the new centre will restore the original Clancarty Lodge and extend it to provide a large community hall plus flexible hall and cafe opening onto an arts courtyard  and connecting to the terrace and the original lodge  via an open lobby area. The centre will also have a number of public outdoor spaces ,including the terrace, courtyard, community and nursery gardens and a walnut grove.  For more information see the Fulham Society June 2019 newsletter  – available only to members .

Spring 2019 update

It looks like planning conditions are being addressed for the scheme to create a new community centre – originally planned to be opened by now . This hopefully means that work should start sometime this year

Sands End Arts and Community Centre

Planning permission was granted  in December 2017 with demolition planned to  start in February 2018 .

We understand due to a process issue with the tender the work has had to be re-tendered . The anticipated completion in the summer of 2019 is looking unlikely.

Clancarty Lodge  will be refurbished with a new building adjacent to form a new community centre on the land formerly used for greenhouses and latterly as a parking lot for Park vehicles.  Hugon Lodge will now house the park maintenance vehicles  and staff welfare. The scheme has met with considerable criticism  from friends of South Park so let’s hope as it takes shape it will meet with approval.
