Consulting on the new Traffic Camera scheme.

The new South Fulham traffic camera scheme appears to have created further congestion on Wandsworth Bridge Road and on the side streets to the west side. Cabinet has now approved a new scheme in the west and 10 more LTNs across the whole borough. In doing so, we feel it is not conducting a proper, democratic consultation.

Certainly when the system was introduced to the west of WBR in Sands End, it was done with little notice and preparation and countless people were caught out and fined. With the new additional scheme there is plenty of evidence of problems with deliveries, taxis, family members etc not being able to reach their destination.

We welcome a balanced discussion on these schemes - we’re not necessarily against it, simply that it is thought through and discussed widely with the community not just the most vocal small groups. We also feel that a compromise of sorts could be the answer - eg, the system operates in ‘office hours’ thus dissuading out ot town commuter traffic but allowing local life to continue normally at other times. IE similar to the Congestion Zone. There is a partition calling for further consultation here.
