Petition to save The Brunswick Club for Young People - update

‘I would like to thank everyone who has added their signature to my petition to re-instate the council funding for The Brunswick Club’s teenage provision. I am writing to update you on the latest developments.

Every day last week, hundreds of residents like you signed my petition and it seems that Labour-run Hammersmith & Fulham Council are now listening!

At the weekend, the council have u-turned on their recent announcement to cut all council funding for 11 to 19 year-olds at Fulham’s Brunswick Club and the Hammersmith based Sulgrave Youth Club. A ‘new’ funding package for our local youth clubs was suddenly announced on Saturday – this is a fantastic success story of people power.

Despite this announcement, key questions still need answering on time and amount of funding and why funding is being replaced with a bidding pot. Until the Council provides answers, my petition goes on.

A huge ‘Thank you’ to everyone who made their voice heard by signing my petition. I would also like to thank Fulham Councillor Jose Afonso and the other Opposition Conservative Councillors of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham for their sterling work on this local issue.

I will of course keep you updated of any developments.

Best wishes,
Greg Hands’
