Albert and Swedish Wharves

Consultations are now taking place on the development by Henley of these two wharves adjacent to Wandsworth Bridge. Neighbouring Comley’s Wharf, presently used by Cemex, and Porcelanosa are not included in the plans. It will be a mixed use scheme as Swedish Wharf is safeguarded and will be taken over by the Port of London Authority, probably as a distribution centre.

Development above the working site will have to be on a set-back platform. A 20+ storey tower is suggested on the corner of the Bridge, with other blocks stepping down to 6 stories. 250-300 homes, 30% affordable are proposed. An elevated continuation of the river walk is planned which, because of the variety of heights of the site, will be accessed by steps and a lift. Walkers will have to leave the river and return to Townmead Road to go around Comley Wharf.

The Fulham Society has considerable concerns about this development, the height and density of the buildings, their proximity to the existing pavement, and the width of the river walk among others.

A major public consultations is planned during the summer, leading to a planning application in the autumn.
