Former West London Magistrates’ site, Talgarth Road

April 2021 – The Dominus Group has announced it is no longer planning a 23-storey hotel (for which it has planning permission) on this site but instead, it is looking to build a smaller hotel and student halls, the highest to be 20 storeys.

The former Magistrate’s Court is on Talgarth Road between the Ark office building and the BP garage, at the foot of the flyover. After the closing of the court facilities in 2017, the site was sold to the Dominus Group for commercial use.

Their plans for a 23-storey hotel on the site invoked a backlash from Hammersmith and Fulham residents.  In part due to this and in part due to the drop in international tourism and business travel, the developer announced on 11 March that despite receiving planning permission for the hotel, it was no longer proposing to go forward with it. It is now planning a smaller hotel on the south side of the site and student halls in a building of 20 storeys rather than 23. It will submit a new application to Hammersmith and Fulham Council later this year.
