Watermeadow Court
May 2020 – Site for sale after developer withdraws
Watermeadow Court in Sands End, formerly a block of 80 social-rent and leasehold flats, was condemned in 2008, cleared of tenants by 2011, bricked up in 2012 and emptied in 2013. It was demolished in November 2019 and the Stanhope/Council joint venture was due to replace it with a new block of 218 homes, mostly for private sale and only 36 at affordable or social rent. Stanhope, however, withdrew from the agreement in May 2020 and the area is up for sale.
The buildings were standing empty sufficiently long to be included in a book published in 2019 called Derelict London.
